When viewing ungraded (raw) coins, keep two things in mind.
Lighting: Sunlight is too bright; the brightness hides imperfections. Fluorescent light also disguises flaws; it causes coins to appear a higher grade than is true. Incandescent light will give you the most accurate viewing of the surfaces and devices of a coin. Cleaning: Rotate the coin under your light source. If you see extensive or minor hair-line marks, tiny lines that look like pin scratches, the coin has been cleaned. |
Have fun looking around.
